For many years I felt weak. I couldn't make my own decisions. I couldn't talk about what I was feeling. My control was in the hands of my family.

I am a young proud Somali woman.

My name is A. I was born in Cameron. When I left my country I was 16 years old.

My name is S. I was born in Iraq and I grew up there with my family.

The war destroyed our country and our lives. It was a very, very difficult decision to put my children in a boat.

Growing up in Cameroon, I have always been busy: I studied, got my degree and then started a business.

My name is M. I was born in Syria and I grew up there with my family but then we all left. It was a very difficult decision to leave Syria.
